Customer Stories - Aidan D

Background:

Aidan plays off 18. He doubted his ability as a golfer and came to see us out of curiosity. He wasn’t entirely certain the equipment had much to do with his game.

What was wrong:

As soon as Aidan got on the tour truck, we could plainly see it was the equipment not the golfer. The shafts in both his irons and driver were too long, too soft in flex and the kick point was too high. He struggled with consistency and ball flight was high and too the right. He never made a solid connection and got that golfing "swish" at impact. We explained that this affected his tempo. We got him to hit a few shots and illustrated the problem using "face impact stickers". He was the classic example of buying clubs based on his handicap and not how he hit the ball.

How we fixed it:

We changed him to a lightweight Nippon shaft in a 1/4 inch shorter with a stiff flex and a low kick point. Taking in account his quick back swing this shaft harnesses his rhythm better, delivers the club head to the ball with that "swish" sound. As you can see from the impact stickers (Club # 2 ) this indicates the ball is coming out of the middle of the club, hence the missing "swish" on his previous clubs.

Improvement:

Aidan commented that he got a lot from his time on the tour truck, he understands about tempo and what it means to him as he now can hit the ball square on the club. We will re-visit and check how Aidan is getting on in the coming months.
