Michael came to see us as he wanted to update clubs but had quite a lot of conflicting information about the type of clubs and shafts that he should buy. Most of his information had come from golfing buddies and magazines.
Problem:
His ball striking ability was good and he generated a good amount of power but hit the ball very high with a set of Mizuno MP-30 with Dynamic Gold Stiff shafts and Vokey wedges. His high flight left him unable to judge distance properly and in the wind he was lost. His driver was all wrong for the speed he generated and the shaft was too soft in the tip. He had no control over the direction even through he could hit it far, he just couldn’t keep it straight. The 3 wood was quite similar and he didn’t hit it well off the ground.
Solution:
We worked on getting a much lower trajectory, Michael loved the look of a muscle back head and once we improved his consistency of strike (through the right shaft and club balance) we were able to work with a new head from Wilson, the FG62. This less offset design resulted in an immediate lowering of flight and the new PX Flighted 6.5 shaft his ball flight was so pure and consistent.
It proves again that the type of head and shaft that suits the golfer, has nothing to do with his current handicap. It’s how he hits the ball and how it flies that’s important.
We topped off his order with a 3 wedge system of loft with ForeGolf Hakusa Wedges in 50,54 and 58. This lower flighted wedge set up became an instant success. We used a Callaway Razr-Fit driver that handles good strong speeds. We used the same model 3 wood, as we needed to set the driver and 3 wood up with a more open or fade face angle. We used the new Aldila Phenom 50 gram in X flex in the driver to give a very significant yardage gain but the flex kept the head under control and he hit over a dozen balls arrow straight.
Overview:
Once we managed the energy of his swing better through the right combination of shaft profile and flex his results were instant. He now has much more confidence and is back enjoying his golf as his new clubs are allowing him to hit the ball the way he wants to.
« Previous Post: Shafts: Light is fast but only if it is stable | Next Post: When too much distance can be a real problem »Hi D,
Had to email you about the new clubs, they are unreal. Every single club feels so perfect, ForeGolf wedges are absolute class, FG 62s beautiful & at least a club longer.
I don’t know where to start with the driver, I can’t believe you can get it so right. It does exactly what you said. Down the right side with total release (no bull****) at least 25-30 yards extra and down the middle.
I have NEVER enjoyed the game so much thanks to ForeGolf.
Thanks a mill.
Mike.
