Custom Fitting by ForeGolf will make you better but as your handicap drops, the clubs may have to change again to suit this progression.
We wanted to highlight that through the right application of our process, expertise and the right club spec, it was possible to reduce Conor’s handicap from 16 to 9, but after a “check-up” fitting 1 year later, it emerged that there was potential to go even lower.
Conor first came to see us in June 2012 when he was playing off 16.
When Conor came to see us the first time, he was to be honest quite reluctant to invest in his game as he believed that he would always be a 14-16 handicapper and was happy with that. We immediately saw that what he was doing was not matching the ball flight and the bit in between, the equipment, was not helping him. It was, in fact, working against him.
After analysing his full set of clubs we decided that rather than a whole new set we would rebuild and align the clubs he had with a lighter weight, stiffer and better balanced shaft. This “new” set would then be matched as a set rather than the bits and pieces he pulled together himself from different shops at different times.
We also introduced a new Taylor Made Rescue 19* and 3 wood which would stay with him as we could tweak the head as his swing realigned and got more consistent. You see Conor was actually building a poor, unnatural golf swing around the poorflight the old clubs were delivering as they were very unsuitable to both him and his swing tempo.
Skip forwards almost a full year ….
Conor returned in August 2013, to be reassessed for new irons, but why ?
Well his handicap was now 8.6 and with this new more natural and consistent swing he needed to upgrade the irons again. Even though the clubs had taken 7 shots off his handicap Conor was now focused on getting even lower.
His goal to go to 4 meant we had to look at getting him even more control of the shot. As his swing was now more confident with a little draw, we assessed his missed shot (left) and worked on building his new irons around better distance control with a custom set of heads that were designed to suit different types of shot.
This is when Conor got in touch after his visit in June 2012, some feedback how his new custom clubs are playing even before his handicap started to fall
