Wilson Golf, 3 reasons why this is the brand to watch

Wilson

Wilson has been slightly undervalued in the marketplace over the past few years and a lot of people have written them off.

Here are 3 very good reasons why we feel you shouldn’t:

  1. They have kitted out more Major winners than any other brand.
  2. Next year they celebrate 100 years in business.
  3. The latest range of FG Tour M3 clubs is simply superb.

Let’s start with the irons which are a forged from an 8620 carbon steel but are finished in a slick matte black PVD finish. This iron has a decent cavity and is the perfect match to the already popular V2 head that Harrington uses. We’ve tested and found some great shaft matches to this head and the only drawback is that the black PVD finish wears a little grey after lots of use. It doesn’t affect the feel though which is superb and with great forgiveness.

It is fair to say that Wilson have dropped the ball for the past few years when it comes to hybrids, fairway woods and drivers. We haven’t really seen them step up to the mark with anything that resembled where the wood market was and we feel they suffered as a company.

Well this year it’s all flipped on its head with their new M3 line-up.

Wilson Golf FG Tour M3

New FG Tour M3 line-up:

  • All the products are now loft adjustable thanks to a new thicker designed hosel sleeve. This thicker than normal sleeve creates amazing stability for the shaft and head and will help to keep the head very “neutral” which is important on all hosel adjustable clubs.
  • They all also come with special weight screws in the sole of each club that allow us to match the head weight to the shaft weight and tie the club weight into the individual tempo of the golfer.
  • This very important feature allows us to balance the club and match it to the golfers swing tempo to help improve consistency of the club.
  • The heads are all matt black in colour which we like to call Batman Black.

The Hybrid

  • The hybrid comes in three different lofts that can be tweaked for +/- 1* as well as a more upright setting to help us with direction control.

The Fairway Wood

  • The fairway wood comes in 3 different lofts and again the hosel allows for ½* changes within the lofts to get the most out of the trajectory and spin.

The Driver

  • The driver is probably one of the best drivers that we have tested in terms of speed off the face.
  • It has outperformed pretty much every head we put it against.
  • If you are lacking speed and distance from your current driver and your driver is over 4 years old then this is definitely the club to get.
  • The only drawback (if you can call it that) is the sound off the head which is a little high pitched. That soon dissipates though once we saw the 4 and 5 miles per hour gain over EVERY other head and even with off centre hits.
  • The different loft settings and sleek compact design sees the loft settings really work with this head and with the right shaft, you will see distance gains as much as 10 yards off this super variable thickness face.
