Congratulations to the 88 junior golfers who made history on Sunday (April 6th 2014) by competing in the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt Championship National Finals at the home of the Masters – Augusta National Golf Club.
Derek took part as an official and was very impressed with the skill of these young golfers. As a strong advocate of building specially adapted clubs for junior golfers in Ireland and having observed some of our current crop of tour players’ advance through the ranks”.
“I’ve been lucky enough to have spent time watching and advising golfers like our own Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry in their early days as they developed into international amateurs and eventually top tour professionals. So, it is with great honour to be an official at The Drive, Chip, Putt Championship at Augusta National ahead of The Masters to see the next wave of brand new talent that will no doubt be the tour players of tomorrow.
Participants
The participants advanced through local and regional qualifiers conducted throughout the United States. Comprised of boys and girls ages 7-15, and competed in separate divisions in four age categories. The regional champions in each earned an invitation to Augusta National Golf Club.
