Shay played off a 9 handicap but struggled with consistency and direction control even though he played a lot.
He was playing with a set of Titleist Irons and had a Titleist Driver. All the clubs were off the rack, they were all standard gents spec and had standard stock shafts. He also had some Callaway Woods that had standard soft tipped shafts in them.
We changed the set completely as Shay has a lot of swing power and needed the control to come from the type of shafts we used.
We decided on a firmer tip shaft profile and with a focus on a firmer but lighter overall shaft to control the head better lead to a more consistent strike and lower ball flight.
We used PXi shafts in his new Irons and the TaylorMade Hybrid and Callaway Driver now have stiffer flex and very low torque tip shafts to give him the control he needs.
He now hits shots that he knows he was capable of but his old clubs were holding him back.
