The speed slot is usually at the bottom of the club, on the sole.
The gap that the slot creates might be filed in with some kind of plastic or resin but if it’s hollow you need to keep it clear of dirt and debris. Buy a small hard bristled brush and give it a proper clean out when you get home after your round.
With the rules relating to Driver face limitations and COR you might see that your new 3 Wood (with speed slots) is threatening to go almost as long as your Driver (if its an older model).
This is normal, as the rules that govern Drivers don’t exist for Fairway Woods or Hybrids.
So your new 3 Wood (with speed slots) goes as far as your current Driver and you start thinking if you update your Driver – it will go even further. Be warned ! This is not the case.
Remember we said there are rules that govern speed off the face of a Driver? This means making changes to a newer model, wont result the ball going any further.
In fact, don’t assume that the technology automatically works in Drivers

The massive distance from clubs with speed slots is not always a good thing.
Hitting your 3 Wood further is great but will open up the gap back to your last Iron or Hybrid. You will need to bridge this gap with either a 5 Wood or a longer hitting lower lofted Hybrid club.
If you don’t have the room for another club in the bag, then the extra distance could cause you more hassle than its worth.
We have found that the design of a speed slot can create a few different things with the ball flight, one of them being the higher flight on the ball.
The space that the club “moves into” usually produces a higher launch and a little extra spin on the ball even from the lower 3 Wood lofts.
Be careful when picking a club with a speed slot as the flight will be higher than normal.
