We watched with great delight as Rory rolled in the putt on the last at The Emirates GC in Dubai and lifted the Dubai Desert Classic Trophy on the 1st of February. He led by 6 shots with 6 to play and held off a hungry Justin Rose to notch up his first victory on Tour and jump to 2nd in the Race to Dubai leader board.
We can cast our minds back to when we met Rory first back in 2001 when as a 5 handicapper at the age of 11 we met him as the youngest member of the under 15 Irish Team squad. We were working as advisors to the team and came across him at one of the winter training sessions. (We still have a copy of his analysis form on file and he had a Titleist driver and a set of Maxfli Revolution irons) His ability, even back then was very noticeable and his talent shone through as he demonstrated his workability of the ball in the air. When we asked him to explain how he moved the ball from left to right and then higher and right to left he said,” I just think draw and the ball draws and then I think higher and I hit it higher”.
We are delighted to see Rory do well and even more impressed as we have seen him grow through the ranks of Irish golf to firmly establish himself as one of our top class professionals on Tour.
