Question: “For 10 H/Cap, how many wedges are best. Keep it simple with just pitching wedge and another of loft? OR have 3 in all and what lofts? Is there need of fitting for say Titleist Vokey wedges, (I am 5ft 10ins) or are they all standard. Thanks.
Well firstly the old handicap won’t have much bearing on the wedge you use. I usually recommend a three wedge system which is PW (48*), a strong SW for chipping at 54* and a soft lob style wedge at 58* which can be used for bunkers as well.
There is every need for a fitting as all the normal things apply like shaft, shaft length, balance weight, lie, etc. We also can fit for bounce which is very important to match to style of hit and swing plane as well as matching to the different course conditions.
Your height isn’t all that important but rather your arm length in relation to your leg length and nothing in your bag should be standard as there is no such thing as a standard size or standard person. Everyone is different from strength to size to skill level so nothing in this world can be standard. Wedge fitting is one of the most important factors of the game.
