Did you know that your golf grip is actually linked to your swing tempo?
As part of our fitting sessions we look at swing tempo and the individual rhythm of the golf swing. Irrespective of handicap every golfer has a certain swing rhythm or tempo and it is directly linked to the balance and weight of the golf club.
Once we identify the rhythm of the golfer and the corresponding weight of the shaft and club that suits their swing, we can then control the build of the club to suit this exact weight.
If the overall club is too light:
It can cause dis-connection from the players’ hands.
The swing speed or rhythm can speed up and cause strike and shot inconsistencies.Alternatively if the club head is too heavy:
The club can dominate the swing and cause a steep swing path.
This will make the swing speed lethargic with a potential loss of distance.
The grip and its weight will affect the swingweight (or balance) of the clubs, so the right size and weight of grip is very important when building the clubs.
Something as simple as changing the grips can turn into a disaster, if they are not properly weighed to match the designed swingweight of the club. This change will affect the balance of the club and in turn the flex in the shaft.
In the photo above from the ForeGolf WorkShop, you can see all the different grips are cut in half, so we can weigh the different parts at the time of building and match the balance weights exactly.
So remember, if the grip is wrong, the club weight will be affected and it won’t work with the swing!
