Well another phenomenal Masters came and went, the top players from around the world were given a masterclass by golf’s newest young player Jordan Speith. This gent is a true southern class act, gracious and humbled by the biggest week of his life.
My own Masters Week began very early at The Drive, Chip, Putt Championship on the Sunday ahead of the Masters. This skills contest sees the next wave of young golfing talent pit their wits against each other in a driving, chipping and putting competition.
It was a big day for these young golfers, I’ve previously hosted at this event and was delighted to be a part of it again. In total there were 80 competitors, aged 7 to 15, who had survived three qualifying rounds to get to this big day. These kids have worked so hard to get to this point and seeing all the wide eyes and excitement was a real privilege and I enjoyed every minute of it.
As always the Masters never ceases to amaze me, it’s an inspiration to walk around the tournament and see first hand, the most perfect show in golf. The week of the tournament went so fast this year, I was away for 13 days and attended a number of different private functions, speaking about technology in golf and my life as a club technician and “equipment junkie”.
One of the highlights was meeting Roger Cleveland, the man behind the original Cleveland wedge and now the head of design at Callaway Golf. He is one of my club making heroes, so getting the time to chat with him was a real treat.
