How our very special “ingredients” make the best clubs

How our very special “ingredients” make the best clubs

Using the correct shaft and head from our fitting sessions is critical, take a look why we insist on the best quality components to make our custom clubs.

We look at our head, shaft and grip components like ingredients. The quality of the meal will depend on the quality of the ingredients. No matter how good the chef is it is almost impossible to create a good meal with poor ingredients.

Custom vs Standard

The shafts we use in our clubs are not the same as the standard ones off the shelf. They are not made of the same material. They are not the same quality of build and cannot give the same performance. The shafts we buy cost over €150 and the standard ones cost just €40

You simply can’t get consistency and performance for €40.

We currently work with

  • 10 different mainstream Shaft Manufacturers (plus more in a developmental capacity).
  • 10 different Head Brands and 5 different Grip Manufacturers
  • Constant R&D testing of new brands that enter the marketplace.

Shafts
Every shaft is different in some way or other, maybe it’s the weight, maybe it’s the way it bends and where it bends. The flex can be very different and the way it reacts to the golfers swing is what makes it unique.

Heads
Are very different also with different lofts, shapes, centre of gravity, weights and how they each make the ball fly.

Grips
Each Grip is made of different materials, has differing sizes and come in different weights.

ForeGolf  R & D

Each season, we take all the new head designs from each brand and conduct our own R&D Testing of each head with a number of different shaft and grip combinations.

Some heads will work best with some shafts. Some shafts will actually transform the performance of the head and make it work very well. We have found that the right shaft will make or break the way a head plays. If the design of the head is matched with a similar designed shaft and in turn is aligned with the golfer the positive results are quite dramatic.

Using the correct shaft and head from our fitting sessions is critical to our success and the future of our business. We have the skill and knowledge to reproduce the exact clubs that we have created for our fitting sessions. However,  the consistency and quality of the shafts, grips and heads (our ingredients) is critical to the success of the build.

Thanks to the great relationships we have developed over the past 20 years, we source our shafts and grips directly from the Tour departments. This is the department where they double and triple check the quality to make sure that it “does exactly what it says on the tin”.  Our shafts come in “Tour” banded and are pre-tested for very tight tolerances of weight, flex, spine and torque.

This “extra” step allows us to access the highest quality of the component part. We can then match the performance of each of our hand built clubs to the specifications listed from our customer’s fittings sessions.

So when it comes to custom clubs, it’s the ingredients that make the difference.
